Feline Urinary Disease

Many cats struggle with urinary disease that can cause problems such as passing urine more frequently, having blood in their urine, urinating outside the litter tray or with pain and being unable to urinate at all.

The term FLUTD (feline lowe urinary tract disease) is used to describe this disease. There are many causes of FLUTD such as bacteria infection, urinary stones, inflammatory plugs containing crystals and cancer. The most common cause of FLUTD is Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC). In cats with FIC none of the afore mentioned causes are present. The cats have an inflamed bladder without a specific cause. Stress, however, has now been linked to this condition. There are many ways in which FLUTD and FIC can be treated and prevented, including appropriate medication , changes in the home environment to reduce stress, diet changes and measures to increase water intake.
